Hamachi screwed up your internet access? - here's how to fix it

Say you've downloaded and configured Hamachi, but now you experience lag time or no internet at all. You're still connected to the internet, supposedly, but you can't bring a browser window up (firefox, chrome, or ie). Or maybe you have now gotten rid of Hamachi and you can't connect. What do you do?

If you've got Win7 here's what you do.

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories - and for the Command Prompt you will want to right click and Run As Administrator.

When at the Command Prompt do the following:

To reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type the following: netsh int ip reset reset.log

To reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

REBOOT YOUR PC
You should be able to get on the internet now

Adobe tn_19166 error fix

If you can't get the Adobe Flash Active X plugin to install on your computer due to the error tn_19166, don't bother contacting Adobe. They will lead you on a wild goose chase which will do nothing but frustrate you.

After trying many things, including uninstalling all Adobe products, running some CS4 Cleaner, running some Microsoft tool, and other nonsense, I found a fix on FixYa.com.

Here are the instructions:

Open a cmd window.

Go to Start -> Run -> type cmd

Make sure you're on the main drive, usually C. Type C: if you're not.

Then type the following (you can cut and paste this):

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

This will run some sort of repair. Initially it will seem like it'll take hours to complete, but before long the progress amount rises fast and, for me, everything was over within 5 minutes.

Then I ran the Adobe Installer for the Flash Active X plugin and in almost no time at all everything was fixed.

That's it!

What's Running and Startup

Another way to help remove junk and potential trouble is to download a program like What's Running (go to the Startup tab) and look up the Process names with a web site like the Sysinfo.org startup list page.

Connected To The Internet After A Virus, But Can't See or View Web Sites

After I got infected with Vundo trojan and the InternetSecurity2010 virus, and perhaps a worm, I got everything cleaned out with SuperAntiSpyware.

Unfortuantely, after reboot, I got locked into the Log On / Log Off loop. It's a situation where you think you're going to log on, but you never really can. What fixed that for me was Dan Fischbach's system. You have to burn a couple of CDs, including an iso disc (need an iso burning program? go here to Img Burn). I had some further complications, so I emailed Dan and he supplied an additional solution for me which worked. He had a Paypal donate button, so I sent him $20.

Are you reading this for the first time? Well, download that iso burning program I linked to and the two files Dan mentions on this page. Have them around just in case in the future.

Also make sure if you have a PC you are running the latest from Microsoft Security Essentials.

After I could get logged into my desktop, I had some further cleanup to do. One thing I couldn't do after bringing up any browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Google Chrome) was get on any web site. It was sort of like I was working offline, but I wasn't.

Then I found a solution deep within a message board:

Go to Start / Run / type: cmd

Type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Then type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart your computer

This worked for me.

You might also need to do the following after your system comes up:

Go to Start / Run / type: cmd

Type: ipconfig /flushdns

then Type: ipconfig /release
then Type: ipconfig /renew

S uperAntiSpyware is an excellent and free way to get rid of and protect your computer from malware, spyware, trojan, and other crap.

Spybot Search and Destroy is clunky and sometimes freezes up, but it's free and has found things that SuperAntiSpyware couldn't detect.

CCleaner wipes out all the temp folders and other junk. It also has a good registry cleanup tool.

If you use Firefox, get Ad Block Plus.

Internet Explorer users, block those third party cookies. Go to Tools \ Options \ Internet Privacy and then click on Advanced. Select Override automatic cookie handling. Accept first party cookies. Block third party cookies.
